Individual Biographies
J. Daniell Hebert
CEO and Co-Founder
J. Daniell Hebert is the co-founder and CEO of MOTO Development Group, a product strategy, technology and development firm with offices in San Francisco and Hong Kong. Under Daniell's leadership, MOTO has provided advanced research and intellectual property for Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Hewlett Packard, Motorola, Casio and Ricoh. MOTO has also developed and shipped high volume consumer electronics products for Virgin, Intel, Logitech, Sirius, Livescribe and many other startup companies.
Daniell has driven the strategic growth of capabilities at MOTO from its origin in mechanical engineering to deep expertise in electrical, firmware, software, toward strategy and user experience. Additionally, Daniell's ongoing involvement in the design community has informed MOTO’s uniquely collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to product development.
Prior to founding MOTO, Daniell was a researcher in MIT's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and later joined Apple Computer as a researcher of advanced manufacturing systems. Daniell received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and completed the Stanford Business School Executive Program for Growing Companies. He has been awarded patents for portable computer systems, portable audio systems and medical instruments. Currently Hebert serves on the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation's National Advisory Committee for Project HealthDesign.
Gregor A. Berkowitz
President and Co-Founder
MOTO President and co-founder Gregor Berkowitz balances a vision for new technology and compelling consumer experience with a pragmatic focus on delivering successful products to market. Gregor leads MOTO's services for startups and has driven key product development for startups including Pure Digital (Acquired by Cisco), Livescribe, Cepheid, Omnicell, SkyPilot. Gregor brings over eighteen years experience working across Asia, creating successful development partnership with companies from Japan, to Taiwan, China, Malaysia and South Asia. His understanding of cultural context, influences, and values has helped MOTO establish a reputation for building long-term relationships and ongoing partnerships with Asian suppliers and clients.
Gregor received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and contributed to research at both the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute (computer vision systems), and the Carnegie Mellon Engineering Design Research Institute (space vehicle design). Gregor holds six US and international patents in area including mechanism design and cloud computing.
Currently Gregor authors the Design Review column for CNET, sharing insights into how and why form meets function in consumer electronics. He also serves on the board of advisors for multiple startups including Twenty20 and JimmyJane.
